House of Sunny

Hailing from London, House of Sunny thoughtfully crafts a series of coveted staples. With a playful wink to the past, their collections defy trends. Resulting in garments as in the moment as your mindfulness app tells you to be.

House of Sunny is like the Kim Kardasian of fashion brands.

Translation: you just can’t overlook it, and you probably don’t want to. Founded in 2011 by Sunny Williams from East London, House of Sunny has earned cult status. Its 625k Instagram following is mainly there for House of Sunny’s ‘70s-inspired knits and kaleidoscopic flared pants that would be right at home in the final season of Mad Men.

Dubbing their pieces: “a crafted staple of the moment with a feeling that lasts,” House of Sunny catches that sweet spot between sustainable and voguish. Their psychedelic cardigans (a.k.a. the peggy) and knitted dresses (the Hockney dress), are made to glam up the mundanities of life. Tasks like cleaning, WFH or taking selfies, become a proper party when you do them in a mushroom-adorned peggy cardigan. That’s because House of Sunny’s designs are made with comfort and quality in mind, while never sacrificing affordability. After reading this, it’ll come as no surprise that House of Sunny’s above-mentioned Hockney dress was titled “the cult dress of summer” by British Vogue. Even Kendall Jenner was a fan.

Forget about fast fashion. House of Sunny takes it slow.

If you’re familiar with the fashion industry (or read this blog post), you probably know that producing clothes is a complicated task. And, that excelling in some aspects (such as Megan Draper-esque style that’s also sustainable) often means compromising on others (like size ranges or affordability). So, how does House of Sunny do it all? The answer: bi-annual drops. In lieu of fast fashion’s many collections, House of Sunny produces low-quantity drops twice a year. This gives them the time to create beautiful garments and source more sustainable factories and production methods. They also give their “homies” the chance to pre-order items six weeks before they hit the racks. By anticipating how popular a style will be, House of Sunny drastically reduces their deadstock, and their items are often sold out within days. Of course, the House of Sunny pieces you see here, or in our Amsterdam-based TITS store, are ready to be shopped and shipped within days.

From E-flow denim to biodegradable packaging, they also keep it sustainable.

When it comes to ensuring sustainability and ethics, it’s not uncommon for fashion brands to make a few claims, tick a few boxes, and go on with business as usual, which is also known as greenwashing. House of Sunny isn’t one of those brands. For House of Sunny, sustainability and ethics are priorities throughout the creation process: from the first sketches to the final delivery to your doorstep. The brand exclusively works with vegan materials, reducing the negative impact materials like leather, Angora or feathers have on animal welfare and global Green House Gas emissions. House of Sunny’s notorious denim is made with e-flow, a sustainable technology reducing up to 95% of water consumption compared to mainstream denim production. Those psychedelically printed pieces often don’t contain print placement, making sure little fabric goes to waste. Finally, House of Sunny thinks of the details, like choosing sea freight over air freight, or using biodegradable garment bags.

You can rip off House of Sunny’s dress, but you can’t rip off House of Sunny.

Sadly, House of Sunny’s cult status also means they are frequently ripped off. Even Amazon sells a rip-off of House of Sunny’s Hockney dress, retailing just over 25 dollars. In response, House of Sunny has an authenticity-dedicated page on its website. Stating that even though they’re flattered they have inspired other brands, rip-offs don’t support their well-researched designs and dedication to sustainability. As a brand not unfamiliar with rip-offs, we surely relate to that message. That’s why we encourage you to invest in your favourite House of Sunny piece, rather than getting a whole bunch of rip-offs.
